curioser and curioser…

The shop has been open for five days now, with four more days and two workshops left to go – Today also saw the start of Audiences Central ‘Take me, swap me, drink me’ campaign, which is offering free tea to visitors in tremendous orange t-shirts with ‘curious?’ on them, which has ensured Mark E. Smith’s noggin has been in my head all day – look out for the stickers posted around Queens Square. They’re also running a mug designing competition, so head to the Curiosity Shock to take part!

It’s all going by tremendously quickly, and we’ve had some excellent responses to the work thus far – I’ve been having a play with the camera around West Brom:

I also got a nice view of my hand and the shop when i was checking out the view from on top of the fire alarm

The workshops are getting there too – Saturdays was making masks and trick or treat bags out of paper bags, poster paints and egg boxes. Yesterday was the pumpkin carving day, and the left-over bags were a perfect size for the terracotta creations to lie flat in so people could take them home on the day, or leave them in our pumpkin patch to dry:

The ongoing workshop is also taking shape, with the first submission being from Mr Albert Bridge:

So, so far, so good! tomorrows workshop is making origami bats, with the added luxury of tea – who could resist!

See you all there,

Vix

Canvassing…

On Friday we got to see the space where the Old Curiosity Shock will be happening – unit 26 of the Queens Square shopping centre in West Bromwich. It’s a tremendous space, and a truly blank canvas:

So, we’ve been busy admin bees and organised this, so now it’s your turn.

To submit work for the show you need to email us at yardsalewalsall@hotmail.com. or post a comment on this blog. THE DEADLINE FOR THIS IS THE 15TH OF OCTOBER, which is next Friday. We must know who is putting in what by that time, and remember: we know what a bunch of creative and resourceful creatures you are 😉

There’s also a bunch of extra promotion happening courtesy of Audiences Central, who are running a pilot scheme to attract visitors to events such as this and whom we’re very chuffed to be working with. There’s also press photographs and suchlike being organised, so it’s a brilliant way to get some promotion.

We are also looking for people to help out with the show, including setting up, manning the store, helping out with workshops, helping to transport equipment and helping to pack up on the 31st. Again, send us an email or comment to volunteer.

The show runs from the Friday 22nd – Saturday 30th October, with installing happening on Wednesday the 20th & Thursday the 21st and the all important private view occuring on 21st from 5-7 (and I can confirm that there WILL be cake and wine!) Workshops are pencilled in for Saturday the 23rd, Monday 25th, Wednesday the 27th and Friday 29th, running from 12 – 4.

So, don’t be a stranger – let’s work together to make this one EPIC!
